CANON PIXMA G1220 review
Design and build
Most Canon PIXMAs have a smooth cut with semi-rounded edges, but this model is an exception. It offers a fresh and distinctive look with a concise and simple design. However, it still retains the monochromatic shade that represents the product line.
Size is especially important for users with a small space problem. Fortunately, the G1220 is a space-saving device that easily fits into a tight area. Measuring just 5.4 inches by 17.6 inches by 13 inches (HWD), you don’t necessarily need to find a new bench for it.
This model houses a simple control panel. No LCD screen is added but you can enjoy the functional buttons. There are also lights that flash when you print.
Transparent ink tanks will catch your eye. Not only does it allow for easy refilling, but these ink tanks provide additional visual interest to this device. Best of all, it lets you easily monitor ink without opening the top cover. The same design was used in its siblings with a mega tank feature.
Printer specifications
The G1220 is designed only with the print function. Even though it doesn’t support copy and scan features, it’s still a good choice for managing everyday documents, from school work to documents. It also works well for photo printing and creative projects.
Inkjet technology is built into this device just like its inkjet printer counterparts. Support for up to 4800 x 1200 dpi makes it reliable for delivering beautiful print results in monochrome and color whether you’re working with text, photos or graphics.
To meet specific printing needs, the G1220 comes with a comprehensive set of features. Use these features to print a variety of documents such as business cards, greeting cards, labels, or even school projects. Moreover, it supports borderless printing which can be used for various purposes.
The Canon PIXMA G1220 is rated at 9ppm for black and 5ppm for color. This print speed is just sufficient for home use, although it is rather late compared to printers in its class.
Paper and Media Handling
Designed for home use, this family printer has a large input capacity. You can load up to 100 sheets of paper in the rear tray, which is more than enough for daily printing. The same tray can also hold up to 20 sheets of 4 x 6 inch photo paper.
The G1220 lets you print on a few paper sizes ranging from 4″ x 6″ to Letter and Legal. Paper compatibility includes plain paper, glossy paper, matte paper, semi-gloss paper, and magnetic photo paper.
Connectivity and software
This is a wired printer that relies heavily on high-speed USB. The lack of Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, and Bluetooth connectivity makes it only compatible with a desktop or laptop computer. You cannot connect the printer to the smartphone, so it does not support mobile printing.
Despite the lack of wireless connectivity, you can enjoy PIXMA Cloud Link functionality accessible from a PC. It also supports Apple AirPrint which is compatible with your Mac.
As for software, the Canon PIXMA G1220 comes with Easy-PhotoPrint Editor. With this software, you can enhance photos before printing them. It is also compatible with PosterArtists Lite software which offers similar functions.
Consumables
Canon’s G1220 uses four individual ink tanks consisting of black, cyan, magenta and yellow. Innovative reservoirs allow users to easily refill inks without hassle. In addition, the mega tank offers a higher print volume of up to 6,000 black pages and 7,700 color pages.
Use only genuine Canon ink for refilling. It is compatible with GI-20 pigment-based black ink and GI-20 dye-based color inks.
As a mediocre family printer, the Canon PIXMA G1220 is designed to meet your simple needs. Simplify your printing and get your jobs done.
